Step 1: Identify and Know your Body Type

How to do this? Look at your body and measure your shoulders, bust, waist and hips.
*You might need some assistance here

Shoulders: Measure from the tip of one shoulder all the way around your frame.
The measuring tape should be sitting high up around your shoulders so that it almost slips off.

Bust: Pull the measuring tape firm across the fullest part of your bust and around your back.
Don’t pull the tape so taut that your breasts start to squish! Make sure you keep your arms down.

Waist: Measure the smallest part of your natural waist, just above the belly button.
Make sure your tummy is relaxed so breathe in and out before you take the measurement.

Hips: Start at one hip (below the hip bone) and wrap the tape measure around the
largest part of your bottom.

From this... Determine what body type you are!

Do you have narrow hips and an undefined waistline?
Are your shoulders or bust larger bigger than your hips?

Do you carry most of your weight is around your middle and have slimmer legs?

Do you have a thin frame throughout?

Are you shorter than 160cm?

Are your hips are larger than your bust
with a well-defined waist?

Are you curvy with relatively proportionate bust
to hip measurements and a well-defined waist?

Are your bust, waist, and hip measurements close to the same?

Step 2: What you should Be Looking For

Pretty & Petite
For a pretty and petite figure like yours make sure you choose something that shows off your gorgeous figure off - like the hot little number on the left! A shorter hemline, asymmetrical hemline or a slightly higher thigh split add interest and make you look taller. Avoid dresses with a longer or fuller skirt because the added fabric can be too much and overwhelm you. Fitted dresses with delicate embellishments, thin straps or no straps, a V-neckline or sweetheart neckline and vertical prints will also elongate you.

Congratulations! Having an hourglass figure means that you can rock nearly any style of dress because you are blessed with the “ideal” proportions. Try wearing a dress like the glamourous style pictured here that is fitted all the way through and shows off your gorgeous curves. Look for dresses with any of these features: a natural waistline, fitted bodice, v-necklines, open necklines, embellished waistlines as well as wrap dresses. These will all look great and enhance your body type.

Boxy and Beautiful
If you have a foxy boxy body, find a dress that emphasizes the waist and shows off your gorgeous legs! The dress on the right, with the illusion mesh cut-outs at the waist will flatter your figure. Also, try anything with a high split to elongate your body and show off your killer legs.

Pear Shaped Princess
Be sure to flaunt your upper body and defined waist! Opt for styles with a fitted, open neck or strapless top, a belt to accentuate your waist and a full or A-line skirt which will softly flow over your wider hips. A style like the serene aqua blue will work well for you with its fitted bodice and softly flowing skirt! Also consider wearing a formal dress with a lace up back which will allow you to wear the dress nice and fitted over your upper body and to highlight your cinched in waist while allowing the skirt to freely fall over your hips.

Gorgeous and Busty
The key to finding the right dress for your body type is to draw attention up to your face and to balance your broader upper body with your narrower lower body to create more of an hourglass effect. A long dress is great as the extra fabric below will help you balance your proportions.  A dress like the vibrant coral formal gown will look amazing on you because the slight V-Neck will help you show off your curves while there is enough coverage and support to ensure you feel comfortable. You’ll want to opt for a dress with a free flowing skirt to create the curves in the hip area and perfectly suiting your body.

Amazing and Apple Shaped
Dresses with empire waists, flowing skirts, and embellished tops will draw the eye up away from your middle. The seductive deep red is a good fit because it has a deeper V-neck while modestly being covered with a mesh while the empire waist and embellished straps will help keep the attention towards your collarbone.  You will feel like a princess wearing a gown with a fuller skirt; perfect for your fairytale night!

Slender and Striking
Flatter your long and lean physique by selecting a more fitted dress that creates shape. A dress with an empire waist, asymmetric neckline, and sparkling belt or with a thigh slit to add curves and dimension. The white dress style is perfect for you because the slight side cut-outs will give the illusion of curves. Stay away from styles that have too much fabric as that might drown your body. Since you are naturally gifted with a slender frame, show it off!

Now you have some information on what to look for your body shape, you can start to think about what look you’re going for, whether its edgy, sophisticated or a princess dress!
